Another something rotten?

             About sovereign immunity?
For more than a decade, Phoenix -- a Boca-based, for-profit company -- has enjoyed an exclusive, no bid contract to operate the North Broward Hospital District's four Emergency Rooms.
Phoenix is owned by Dr. Steven Scott, a long-time supporter of Florida Governor Rick Scott.
Small  wonder -  for decades -  the District has served as a shameless Petri Dish for sweetheart contracts and backroom politics.
This have led  to several current investigations.
Including one by the US Department of Justice.

And another by Governor Scott's Auditor General's Office.
Obvious question, will anyone look into Dr. Scott's multi-million dollar no bid District ER contracts?
      Fair question.
Especially since the District has spent  more than $160 million on Dr. Scott's four Broward Health ERs during the past five years.
And double-especially since the four ERs operated by Dr. Scott are "tort proof"  - thanks to their unique sovereign immunity status as for-profit portions of the District's non-profit, tax-supported status.
        Bottom line?
Average Charge ER Visit - Level 4*
            Broward Tax Supported Hospitals
Broward Medical - $722   Memorial Miramar - $640
Coral Springs - $838        Memorial Pembroke - $640
Imperial Point - $839        Memorial Regional - $639

North Broward - $858       Memorial West - $637
*Type A - Life threatening condition
PS - Might any of this be linked to the recent suicide death of a Broward Health CEO and former Phoenix ER executive?
