Mysterious Chargemasters

    Each hospital creates and maintains a data-based Chargemaster to track its costs and charges.
   For example, based on its data-driven Chargemaster. executives at Miami-Dade's public Jackson Memorial Hospital know the average charge for an outpatient  Lower GI Endoscopy is $2,475 versus an average cost of $790.
    Data of this sort, of course, is essential in Jackson Memorial's negotiations with health insurance providers to establish levels of reimbursement for various types of patient care.
    However, a comparison of charges set by the
Chargemaster at Hospital A versus those at Hospital B  seem more like those of haggle-driven a Persian market.
